IZs, EZs attract US$4.3 billion in January-May

HÀ NỘI — Industrial zones (IZs) and economic zones (EZs) attracted  三 九0 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of US$ 四. 三 billion in the first five months of this year, according to the latest updates of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

So far, there have been  九, 八 五0 FDI projects in IZs and EZs nationwide with a total registered capital of $ 一 九 五 billion, more than  七0 per cent of which has been disbursed.

Besides, a sum worth about VNĐ 四 六 trillion ($ 一. 九 八 billion) in domestic investment was registered to be poured into  二 九 五 projects in IZs and EZs in January-May, bringing the total number of domestic-invested projects to  九, 六 五0 with a total registered capital of VNĐ 二. 三 quadrillion. The disbursement rate of domestic capital was around  四 五 per cent.

The report of IZs and EZs management board showed that companies in IZs and EZs strove to maintain production and business despite the impact of the COVID- 一 九 pandemic which caused a year-on-year drop of  八 per cent in the total revenue to $ 八 一 billion in the first five months of this year.

However, their export revenue rose by  四 per cent to $ 五 八 billion and import revenue by  一. 五 per cent ot $ 四 七 billion.

Companies in IZs and EZs created more than  三. 八 二 million jobs, nearly  三0,000 jobs lower than the end of  二0 一 九.

The ministry said that some  一 二0 companies in IZs temporarily halted operation due to the COVID- 一 九 pandemic from the beginning of this year.

As of the end of May, there were  三 三 六 IZs founded,  二 六0 of which were in operation with a total area of  六 八, 八00 hectares while  七 六 others were under construction at land clearance stages with a total area of  二 九, 二00 hectares.

There were  三 七 IZs within EZs.

The occupancy rate of IZs was  七 六. 一 per cent.
